A small heritage home in downtown Penticton that had gone thru some previous renovations. It had become a rental home for quite a few years and was pretty run down. The birch hardwood was about 7 years and was destroyed so we sadly had to remove. We had rented our home out for 8 weeks with plans to move into this place and do a few updates over July/August. End goal was to be a vacation rental home. After I cried on the initial walk through, we had to move to a friends place for 2 weeks while we tore out all flooring and kitchen. Two weeks later and some fresh paint, I grabbed a bunch of area rugs and threw some beds up and we moved in. Living with a fridge on the patio and a BBQ, I washed dishes in the bath tub in a big bucket! It was a very glamorous summer!
We spent an entire weekend tearing out all the hardwood with no a/c! Did I mention we had just finished fully renovating our own home in June? We had exhausted all our friends help – so B and I removed it ourselves. Sadly the original hardwood was not in good shape. After a whole lot of buckets of self-leveling – we prepared for the new luxury vinyl install. My inspiration photo is the main cover. I wanted to bring the home back to its roots. After all – there is no record at city hall as to the age of this place. I think the flooring makes this home! We get so many compliments on it! It did get costly with all the self-level and a new sub floor.
The kitchen ended up being a full on tear out. The drywall in behind had mold and water damage so we are thankful we did that. I wish I took pictures of our foldable tables we had for a kitchen all summer. Thank god for plastic wine glasses and take out! We chose open shelving in the kitchen to open up the space – its very small.
Dining Room table is from Ikea. The 4 painted chairs are from a chalk painting company out of Kelowna. I was SO excited when I found these. $65 a chair already painted! Love it! Paint throughout the home is BM Classic Gray and BM Oxford White on trim.
Master bedroom bedding is all Rachel Ashwell from Target – yes we had to cross the border and do a pit stop in Bellingham just for this! Now Target actually delivers to Canada.
I found a lot of used vintage furniture locally and had a girl in town chalk paint it all.
Fast forward to end of October and we fell in love with this little house! Our first tenant moved in November 1st! We love this home! You too can stay here as its listed on Airbnb under “Shabby Chic Retreat”.
Hope you like it! Would love to read some of your comments on what you think!
Stay tuned for exterior updates! New paint, fence, underground irrigation, new pergola with grapes being planted this spring!
